Festive Seasonal Bird Seed Cookies

Updated: Dec 22, 2021

It's for the birds! Are you ready to make these Festive Seasonal Cookies for your neighborhood family of birds? They will love these little treats in a variety of shapes and sizes. Easy to make, too!

Prep Time: 10 minutes Set Time: 2 hours for gelatin to set like glue; longer for better results Application Time: 5 minutes Total Time: 2:25 hours

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of Wild Bird Seed

  • cookie cutters

  • 1 packet unflavored gelatin

  • 2 tablespoons of cold water

  • 1/3 cup boiling water

  • string

  • skewer

  • non-stick cooking spray

Instructions:

  1. Spray your cookie cutters with non-stick cookie spray to make the bird cookies easier to pop out from their shell.

2. Empty one packet of unflavored gelatin into a bowl with 2 tablespoons cold water. Let sit for about one minute.

3. Next, add 1/3 boiling water into the gelatin mix stirring for a few minutes until it dissolves. Add in the 2 cups of your choice of bird seeds and mix. The gelatin will act like a binder to keep the seeds together once everything is mixed.

4. On a tray or sheet of wax paper, lay out your desired cookie cutters. Fill cookie cutters with your mixture and press into shape firmly. Make a small whole with your skewer in order to use later for the string to make the ornament.

5. Place in the refrigerator (with a note that says: FOR THE BIRDS) to allow the seed mixture to set. After setting warm to at least room temperature before moving the actual cookies from the pan.

6. Carefully, pop the cookies from their cookie cutter molds. In our case, trees, snowman and ornaments.

7. Thread a string through the hole as carefully as possible.

8. Hang the ornaments from a tree, pole, or hook outside your windows and watch the birds devour them!
